Windows 7 Recovery "cd" On Usb?

    So I have installed Windows 7 on my Ryzen 2600X system because, windows 10, eeewwwww...

    I'm trying to build a windows Recovery CD on a USB stick but Win 7 is asking me for an optical drive... Don't have one on the system!

    Ideas?

    It seems obvious that you can't build a Recovery CD if you have no optical drive.
    try searching for building a Recovery USB.
    Perhaps something like this?


    Note: I've never made a Windows 7 Recovery CD or USB. I image 4 Windows 7 computers about every 4 - 6 weeks, 2 without optical drives. I boot from a USB stick and create the image on a USB connected portable hard drive.

    I was thinking more along the lines of a virtual DVD-R that would create an image in a directory instead of writing to an actual disk.

    Then I could transfer that image onto an USB stick and voilà.

    There are methods of creating iso files which can be duplicated but ...

    I hadn't read it.

    It does say that you must have a CD drive...

    You can try to create a virtual cd/dvd with something like Totalmounter
    "Provides CD-RW and DVD+RW emulators that allow you to "write" data into an CD/DVD drive, you may also create ISO9660 files by using any CD/DVD burning software."
    then use that drive to make a USB.
