Windows 7-Regular startup problem

Recently,when I turn on pc from cold,8 times out of 10..it wont startup properly.I mean it sounds like its starting up,but there is no dos beep,and the monitior stays black.I then have to turn the power switch on back off then on again,like a hard reset.Usually have to do this several times before it will startup correctly.I tried the startup repair in system recovery options on the windows dvd,but no problems found.Any ideas whats causing this anyone?:confused

 

I'd try reseating the memory chip(s) first, and if that isn't it I'd turn my attention to the hard drive, like is it registering in BIOS every time? I'd also run the drive manufacturer's disk test utility which can be downloaded from their website.

Thanks for the reply Earthling.I tried what you said,but to no avail.
Then for a while I thought the psu might be faulty,but eventually,the fault was tracked down to a faulty usb hub!Once I unplugged that,all startup problems stopped,so it was obviously faulty.Thanks again

UPDATE-
The problem was NOT a faulty usb hub,soon after I removed the hub,the same startup problems started again.
Eventually the fault was found,it was a faulty PSU.
Not only was this causing startup problems,but also windows would not resume/wake from sleep mode.
