I got a new pc and i am having problems with restarting it.

Everything seems to work fine at the moment ( doesn't freeze, turns on fine etc..).
It's just when i select restart that its an issue. I get the computer logo then the screen just goes black and i can't do anything ( it never even attempts to boot to windows).

Since it just gets stuck in a black screen i am forced to manually press the power button to shut off the pc. The pc turns off fine ( and boots to windows) IF i put shut down and NOT restart.

Pc is running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Any assistance and help will greatly be appreciated.

Can someone help? I just made things worse now

I was reading somewhere where some people managed to fix the issue by going to disk management and setting it as active where the OS was.

Well i only saw 3 partitions ( 1 = 100 mb, another 3.9 gb, and the other one my main HD). Since i right clicked on all of them i only got the option ''set as active'' on the one that had over 200 gb.

So i selected that turned off the pc and now i can't do anything... It won't boot into windows now. All i get is a black screen now with a message saying '' missing bootmgr'' and to press ctrl+alt+del..

I really hope i don't have to reinstall windows and that all my data did not get lost because i spent HOURS installing some things and configuring some settings and such.

Also most pc's people buy don't have anything repair disks prior the previous one i bought prompted me to create my own repair disk or back up cd. Since i just installed the OS on this recent pc i didn't even do that yet and i have no repair disks or anything.

This at least addresses the same issue:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ee?msgId=c1fc8c2c-de81-4439-875d-71dbdc3235e7

This Google search turned up alot of information:

    changed active partition can't boot

If all this fails, you can either download and burn one of the boot cd repair disks out there and use it to move your files to another drive or hook the hard drive up to another PC in the slave position and move your files that way. On the bright side, if it's just programs you are worried about, I guess you won't need to rescue files, although the programs will have to be reinstalled...

Unless someone has a trick up their sleeve here at MG, I think you are stuck with a reinstall...

The repair disks did not help neither did trying to repair the issue using my operating system disc.

I just go a message saying that the repair could not be solved for this issue. I even tried the command prompt repair option and i got the same thing.

In the end i just opted to wipe out the drive clean and reinstall the OS once again, which to me would be faster than continuously trying fixes. Of course i rather had been able to fix then then go through the process again and even reinstall all the software+ updates all over again but i just did it anyways.

After the 2nd reboot it started doing the restart issue came back again even with the fresh install of windows. So i went into the bios menu and fiddled with a few things until i got something to work. Which was going to the power on options and changing the option from quickboot to Fullboot. Now the OS is able to restart just fine.

Just to clarify for someone who might come across the same issue, i was never really having problem with anything else other than the restart feature in windows. Whenever i pressed to restart the system it would hang in a black screen and wouldn't even launch the operating system, if i selected to shut down or manually shut down the pc everything worked without an issue.

Any new computer with ANY problem should be taken back and fixed under the warranty. You should not have to "tweak" to get a new computer to operate correctly.
