windows 7 search

I liked windows XP's search function, it allowed me to find all videos, or word documents, or mps without issues
I have a file on desktop called HopeMp3s, I didnt see it on my desktop, so I went to search for it
by typing in every combination of letters including,HopeMp3s
it did not show up, so I thought I didnt have it

so I accessed my external HD, turned it on, plugged it in, and when I tried to move the file over to my desktop from the EHD, I HAD THE FILE(it wanted to replace it)
how can I enhance the search capabilities on my windows 7 OS?

 

There is a tool called FileSearchEX that comes very close to what you're wanting. It is perfect for me.

Thank you for digging up that old topic; it gives me hope (I have never been able to find anything on Windows 7).
