    When
When I reboot my computer I get a window with the message: There was a problem starting C:\Users\XXXX\Local\CrashDumps\Apple Computer\xcimoesr.dll
The specified module could not be found

The Apple Computer file is empty. How can I stop this message window from displaying every time I re-boot?

    Greetings, pdhairy...

Try this: navigate to Control Panel > Internet Options. Manually delete the browsing history.

Next download and install CCleaner and run the Cleaner portion of the program (leave all of the settings at default).

When that routine is finished, reboot and see if there is a change in symptoms.

Thanks. I ran a Kaspersky scan and no malware was found, but I think I'll try your suggestion.

I did see this about using autoruns and one of the replies said it was easy to spot the leftover entry. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...91?msgId=ec36f688-701a-4eb2-a67a-618ab45e549f

Because the Apple folder is empty it is probable that Kaspersky deleted the bad .dll but didn't remove the registry entry that looks for it at startup. Might be worth a quick look at autoruns to see if it is easy to spot and delete. The Malware forum is still a better choice to be absolutely sure but it can be time-consuming and this looks like just a leftover entry that is more a nuisance than a threat.

Since the module does not exist, I would simply remove that item from your startup list (using CCleaner | Tools |Startup).

I used the link you posted to run the autoruns. The start-up entry was highlighted in yellow because there was no location found so it was easily spotted. I unchecked it and my problem went away. Thank you very much! The entry was in this category HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

I recently had a problem with my Quicktime player. I have since removed it and re-installed the latest version. Maybe that had something to do with it??????

Thanks for the feedback on autoruns being fairly easy.

I don't know about the original problem. It seems odd that a big company like Apple would use a randomly named .dll (all instances I found were in the same folder but different names). Seems more likely that some malware was set to use a folder that is common on many computers. At any rate I think you are good since the referenced file was not on your system anyway.
