I have Vista Ultimate currently and I want to get an upgrade to 7 Ultimate soon. However, I may choose to upgrade my hardware some time in the future, (motherboard, processor, etc.). If I do this and have to reinstall 7 on a different drive and other hardware, would 7 still work? I'm assuming I would have to install Vista first, then 7 over it again. And after doing that would the upgrade to 7 allow me to install to a new machine basically? Thanks.

    Hi

If you get the upgrade version of Windows 7 then if the amount of parts changed are not too many all you may need to do is to call the activation line to re-activate your Windows 7 version, best bet if possible is to get the full Windows 7 version over the Upgrade version.

But if you have to use an upgrade version then you will need to install a qualifying version as in Vista first and then upgrade to Windows 7 and again you may need to call the activation line as originally your Windows 7 upgrade would have been accociated with other hardware, all you need to tell the support desk is that you needed to upgrade and tell them your licence code and they will issue an activation code for you to type in (caveat to this is the conversation you have with support on re-activation is random as to the person you get and you need to stress that you needed to install new hardware)
