System: Windows 7 Home Premium, version 6.1 (build 7601), service pack 1
Hardware: ASUS laptop K52F, 9+ years old ( have a newer Win 10 machine but still use this older laptop on occasion.)

I have had this problem for quite a while. Posted it to a forum a few years ago, never received a solution. This is not a big deal but curious on how to solve. Maybe this time around we can solve this?

There are two accounts on the laptop: Administrator & Standard User. The laptop has 3 USB 2.0 ports.

Scenario #1: In the Administrator account, plug any external device (flash drive, hard drive) into any of the 3 USB 2.0 ports. The device is visible in the left hand pane of Windows Explorer.

Scenario #2: BUT - in the Standard User account when the external device is plugged into any of the 3 USB 2.0 ports, the device is NOT visible in the left hand pane of Windows Explorer. Why not???? I can type the port - say E: - into the Windows Explorer address bar and will see the contents of the device in the right hand pane of Windows Explorer. But it never is visible in the left hand pane. WHY NOT? Isn't this weird?
