I think my PC downloaded updates as I was sleeping yesterday and I awoke to the HP recovery manager. Windows will not boot in standard mode or in safe mode. I have attempted safe mode with and without networking, and with command prompt. no option works. I have also attempted to boot from last known good setup and that does not work. The only information I can optain is from the HP system Recovery. This is what I get.

    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200230
    Problem Signature 05: Auto Failover

    Problem Signature 07: CorruptAcl
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

I was also able to run soem sort of HP diagnostic program from startup that yielded the following results:

    Failed startup test
Failed run in test with the following codes
    Failure id 90c5va-5he6k7-xd003a-60xp03
    Product id xz259ua#aba

Failed short dst with the same codes as above.
    Passed the memory test.

One of the updates was causing major problems. Just in case that might be causing your current problem, go through the steps under Scenario B: Recovery steps for computers that have installed security update 2823324 and are now failing to start

Thank you for your help. I am unable to get Scenario B to work.

When I select option 1, Revover the last restore point, it tells me it cannot find a last restore point. I have had problems before and my machine had multiple restore points available from which I chose one. now there are none. Should it have been happening automatically or do I need to make my PC, before the problems occur, create restore points?

When I select option 2, I receive Error: 2, and it asks me to ensure I have read persmissions on the folder. I am logged in as myself and the command prompt screen, at the very top, states Administrator. That makes me think my user id has admin rights on my pc.

When I select option 3, I receive Error:1639. and it tells me the command line is missing a required servicing command. I am typing dism /image:c:\/get-packages. Couold it be my HP PC with Windows 7 recognizes a command other than Get-packages?

Thank you, again. This is a good site and the support offered here is appraciated.

I figured out how to keep the PC from booting as soon as it fails. I get a message on the blue screen that states,

Stop: C0000145{Application Error} The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000010). Click OK to close the application.

I hope this helps someone help me help myself. Thank you.

I thought of one more thing. When I attempt to open windows in safe mode, it alsays fails at the same point. Safe mode scrolls a lit of drivers being opened and the last one shown before crashing is, AtiPcie.sys. I do not knwo if that means it was the last driver successfully loaded or it is the driver that is failing.

What version of Windows are you running?

Do you have the Windows CD for the computer?

The driver and stop information you provided would suggest corrupted Windows files, which can be repaired quite easily if you have the CD.

I am running Windows 7. I have not looked for my Windows disk. I do not remember if it came with one but it must have. manufacturers have stopped providing re-install disks but do we typically still get Windows disks? If i do have it, do you know what I should do? Will it still preserve my files?

    Thank you.

A re-install disk is the same as a windows disk.

If you don't have one (and they have generally stopped providing them) then there are other avenues we can take.

The steps I have in mind will preserve all your files and they have been previously documented.

I would however recommend that once we get this fixed you back up all your files to an external drive (or similar) if you aren't doing so already.

If it is not a separate disk, then I do not believe I have any such disk.
