Windows 7 will not let me backup

I have a little problem in that Windows 7 backup utility will not open.

I want to make a backup of the system and have always used windows 7 inbuilt backup but i noticed the other day that it was not updating so i wanted to start a manual backup but the option will not open ????????

Don't know about the Win 7 backup system, but other imaging systems - like Acronis - won't work if any inconsistencies are detected on the disk. Maybe run a CHKDSK /R and try again?

 

I ran CHKDSK /R it found no faults but it still does not let me into Backup/Restore.

 

Any error messages, or errors showing in Event Viewer at time of failed access?

 

No nothing, it just will not open.
I get the blue roundel for about 2 seconds as if it is going to open but that is as far as it gets.

thanks Rusty, everything checks out and i can get into Backup/Restore when in "safe mode" but still not in "normal mode"

Now for the strange part, I downloaded and installed Acronis true image (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Acronis_True_Image_Home_2011_d2236.html) went the "control panel" and clicked on "backup" it opened Acronis but also gave me the option to open "windows backup"

So now i am totally confused, I will have to wait for the 15 day trial to run out and see if i still have "windows backup":confused
