Windows 7 will not update

I have tried multiple times both under my name and Admin and Win 7 will not install the updates.

Any suggestions? Microsoft FixIt is about as useless as DrWatson was in the Win 3.x days. rolleyes

 

No error, the temp bar does not go all the way across or in the morning, the system has rebooted and it is attempting to phone home again. :confused

Frustration, as I was away from Windows for a period... as you know.

 

I have also been having a different type of problem with Microsoft Update and Win XP.

Judging from your description, it sounds like the download or install process does not complete.

You can download the update(s) individually and save them to your Desktop.

To download, go to Microsoft Download website

In the Search download center box, type the number of the Knowledge Base article that describes the update, and then click
the search icon or press Enter. The KB number is listed together with the Update name in the list of available updates in Windows Update. It is also
included with the update name in the update history in Windows Update.

Close all programs and run the updates individually.

If that does no work, you might try running it in safe mode.

 

Apologies for a bump-

I am back with same errors again and appears Win 7 has not updated since July on the desktop. I have not used the desktop except for file server in July/August due to hot temps, so I missed this.

I have tried under Administrator and Safe Mode. Appears it is hung on -

Aren't there some cmd line prompts to jam through the updates?

sikvik, the reset did not work.

Code 8024001B (already installing updates) has appeared yet again.

 

Open up Windows Update. On the bottom left, hit Installed Updates.
Let us know the last Installed KB# and date. I've attached a screen shot from end June till current. The Sceenie is showing only Windows Updates, not of MS Office, .Net, Defender.
Also from View update history, let us know about the failing updates.

I'm hoping we can Install manually (the missing and failing one's) one or two at a time from Microsoft's catalog. We will be using IE for the same.

I had a different error but similar problem on a machine I fixed some time ago. I am desperately trying to remember what I deleted. It was obscure, but worked. Give me a few.

Can you attach your WindowsUpdate.log? I believe its under C:\windows.

I am pretty sure that this is the ultimate cause:

Which as I understand is akin to a 404 error.

Have you: disabled firewall, rebooted router, and/or cablemodem?

You also might want to relocate the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir and reboot. Then try again.

 

I have not rebooted router today. Will try that, as I have MSE turned off trying to prevent any errors.
