Windows 7 Won't Boot

    I'm in a real fix...

While I was away from my computer, something happened. Its rebooted on its own, and has automatically gone into safe mode and Windows 7 will not boot up no matter what.

I unfortunately don't have the repair disc. I don't know what happened to it. I can't System Restore and I have no images. Right now it's scanning and hopefully fixing the problems in my computer's system... But if something goes wrong, what should I do?

I've had this computer for nearly ten years and it has never given me any problems before. I'm very worried I might be facing a worst case scenario. If anyone could help me with anything, I would appreciate it so much. Right now I'm using mobile to post this.

I'm definitely not turning to the Geek Squad for help. My only other option is to visit a local computer repair store.

Alright, I just managed to get Windows 7 to boot normally after some work and the F8 option, so I'm okay for now.

However, if anyone has any information on what to do in this situation, or refer to me a place that can help guide me in that situation, I'd appreciate it.

I'm really sorry if I've inconvenienced anyone. I thought I'd turn to here first in case there was something someone could give me advice on.

Since this sort of incident happened out of the blue, I may just have to look into getting a new computer soon since I don't know why this has happened.

Learn how to make images!!! Buy a portable external hard drive, no larger than 2TB and ask for help on learning how to do this.
If the computer behaves weird, restore a working image. It takes less time than trying to figure out what went wrong and then trying to fix it.

We currently have 4 working Windows 7 computers in the house. I think at one point or another in time, I've had to restore an image to each of those computers.

I'll have to remember that. I'd like to keep this from happening again in the future if I'm going to continue using this computer of mine. I'll look into buying a good external hard drive too later on this week and see what I can do about those images. Hopefully, it won't happen again. But it'd certainly be better to prepare and have a good contingency plan.

    Thanks for the advice.

Could it be overheating? Taking a leaf blower to the insides might be of some help.

Won't that do more harm than good? I've never heard of people cooling a computer down with a leaf blower.

I don't mean cooling. I mean cleaning. Disconnect all the wires. Open up the case taking the machine outside and blowing any/all the dust that has collected over the years. Once the insides have been cleaned then reconnect the wires and boot her up. I use the leaf blower instead of using compressed air cans which is the usual suggestion..

Ah sorry, I misread you. But then you hadn't specifically said anything about cleaning it in your earlier post, and since you suggested overheating, I assumed you were talking about cooling it.

I have an old laptop hp 6910p which reboots after being on for a while.
I am guessing that it is a heat problem.
Now sits on 300 x 400 mm metal plate.
