    Hello,

I thought I had a malware problem, but I already received help in the malware support forum, and they directed me here.

My computer runs incredibly slow to the point that if I try to open IE it may take 5-10 minutes to open, and another 5-10 minutes to open a webpage. This happens with all the programs. It runs fine in safe mode.

Also, it won't install most programs anymore (Firefox, Private Firewall, iTunes, etc.). It also fails to perform windows update.

    Computer Info:
    Lenovo Thinkpad E420
    Windows 7 (x64)

Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you for the help!

    Very vague, need more information.

If you did have Malware, specially ZeroAccess or Internet Security 2014, it is highly probable your OS has become corrupted and unstable.

    Few steps you can try

    Open Services.msc
Check for BITS(Background Intelligent Transfer Service), BFE (Base Filtering Engine), Security Center, Windows Firewall, Windows Update.
--If these items are missing, you may want to try the below step
    RunTweaking.com
Be sure to perform the SFC, and probably the CheckDisk scan as well before running the repairs.

    Another option,
Try to run things while in Safe Mode, does the performance increase?
Try creating a New User Profile and testing things out there, it is possible the current user profile is damaged.

That would be your best starting point in my opinion.

    Thanks for the response.

I opened services and the items that you listed were all there.

Regardless, I had already run tweaking.com in the malware section ( http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=281406 ). While running the scan I received this error message several times: "Microsoft(C) Register Server has stopped working.

    Problem signature:

    "

Here are a few examples of the error messages I get during installation:

    private firewall setup launcher:

    Error Status Code: c0000185

I then get a message saying this: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006). Click OK to close the application."

I get a similar message with Windows Update, saying windows installer has stopped working. It says this when I click on more information:

    Problem signature:

The computer's performance in safe mode is better (programs open quickly, internet browsing is at a normal speed, e.g.) However, I am still unable to install programs.

I created a new user account, but I still had the exact same problems as I do with the old account.

Please let me know where to go from here. If you need more information, please let me know what you need to see.

    Thanks,
