    Hi all,
Was browsing on pc when anti virus(Windows Security Essentials) popped up with a threat...looked at details (some type of trojan) and then hit quarantine
and poof!!...windows disappeared and pc went to start mode.
Now windows won't start up in any mode and each time I try I end up with a blue screen with something about dumping cache at the bottom.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Put your Win 7 disk in the Rom tray and start the computer then follow instructions and pick Repair. Had you made a 'System Image Backup' ?? as if the Repair does not work you can then choose to recall the image you had made earlier after Repair failure has run.

    Thanks for reply but I don't have a Windows 7 disk...there's a separate recovery
partition on the hd but I don't know how to access it with windows not working.

You should have a very brief message screen that tells you what F key to hit when you first boot up to enable the recovery partition.

Hey thanks again,I did find the f key to get to recovery(f10),but now a new problem.
Gives the option to back things up but not enough space on the disk...and the other option is recovery with no back up.So would like to keep that as last resort...

With out a OS disc and unable to boot into either normal or safe mode, about all you can do is to use another computer and create:
UBCD4Win to try to use to back up your files and data to a cd or external drive.

Well thanks again...will give it a shot, but how do I get that program to run on the sick pc?...I have flash drives I can copy it to or a even a cd but I don't think sick pc will recognize them.

You will have to go into the bios, which you should still be able to do, and change the startup devices to have the CD drive the first startup device. Then you can boot to the cd.

You could also try to download the Windows Recovery CD (if you use a torrent program it is free) and write that to CD as an image file using imgburn or similar burning software.

That gives you the option of trying a System Restore which sometimes works.

You would have to set the boot to CD option in BIOS with this disc as well. On most PCs hitting F12 at the manufacturer logo screen will take you to a boot order menu.

Well thanks guys for all the help here.

I was able to do a restore with the f keys.It restored to an earlier point but still Windows would go only go as far as scan fingerprint/password after which the blue screen appears mentioning dumping physical memory.
I also tried Last Known Good Configuration through the f keys(f8) but that didn't work.
Appreciate the suggestion, but don't like the idea of downloading software in a torrent but like I mentioned I was able to do a system restore to no avail.
And in the when it rains it pours category...tried to download the UBCD thing on 2 different pcs(this one vista...am still waiting...3hrs. to go) and another XP laptop(downloaded slow and the program wouldn't run on that pc.

Look I'm on the low low end(probably underwater) of having the knowledge that you guys provide,And it is truly much appreciated, but since all this happened when I quarantined a possible false trojan with Windows Security Essentials I gather that there is no way to get to anti virus program to release it since Windows won't start?...unless it's a program like UBCD?
