Does it suck? Are there more issues than encountered with previous OS?

I have had more serious issues in the last 5 months since I upgraded to win 7 then I have had in 20 years.

It very well might just be me - is it just me?

That's really too bad as W7 has been working exceptionally well for me. Can you state your issues along with what hardware you are running. Upgrading sometimes brings its own issues along. How did you upgrade?

    Next Options With Windows 7

I am very confident Windows 7 works well for many people. I am more interested in people's opinions in comparison to other OSs - especially those involved in trouble shooting / support. All the research I have done seems to supply mixed reviews.

From my personal experience researching my own troubles I believe I can say with confidence Win 7 X 64 has many more 'tickets' than Win 7 x 32. I am just trying to get a feel for the situation. Are the problems I am having 'just me'. I need to take some additional steps.

    Reformat
    Reinstall
Pay Microsoft $69 per incident, I believe I have about 15
Buy Win 7 so I can get free tech support from MS?
    New HDD
    New Optical Drive
    New Ram
    New Motherboard
    New Video
Pay $200 to a tech in the phone book so they can tell me they were not sure what the issue was but they reinstalled Win 7 so it ought to be better?

I am not really sure which direction to go. But, if I get some agreement in this thread or people like you give me the, "Hell No!" it will help me in my next decision.

My experience...upgrades are hit and miss. You'd have a much better windows 7 experience if the computer came with it installed. Computers, for the most part, seem to operate well with the OS installed from the manufacturer.

I had a laptop that came with ME. (Yup everyone can laugh) and ME was really a dog but on my HP is worked fine for years because I guess HP tuned the hardware to match the OS.

One of my friends purchased three windows 7 computers in December(all 64 bit). She calls me when she has computer problems. I've heard very little from her.

I have had a very good experience with 7 and am quite satisfied with it .
I have a custom build, and have used XP, Vista and 7 all on this same system .
7 has performed admirably, I have had no OS related issues that i can think of .
Vista, on this same machine, was MUCH slower, and had numerous small bugs, none of them were detrimental to the function of the OS, just GUI glitches and such .
I can honestly say that 7 is as fast and reliable (for me) as XP .

Has this been documented or discussed elsewhere? This forum or other places? I am not against going out buying a new hard drive and a retail copy of windows. Even though you are obviously an awsome geek I am a smidgen concerned about dropping $100 to replace the current drive and what. . . $89 plus tax on windows? Again this is not a challenge to your awesomeness or geekness. IF others have felt the same I'd like to research this option. All my components are well above top of the line for what I use my CPU for. So, if $160 would make my computer run as well as yours and your friends - DAMN I AM IN!

That makes me feel better. Especially considering your name. I want my cpu to be like your Win7 system too!

Feel free to address the question, folks. Possibly I put this in the wrong forum? I did not see a "General" forum though. Possibly I was rush'n myself too much.

    Hi

Windows 7 is like other Windows versions can be fussy if using on older hardware or if doing an inplace upgrade from say XP or Vista, where XP while it may work and install as an upgrade is not a supported option, so did you upgrade froma previous Windows version and if so what one.

Clean install is best to be honest and I have not had issues now on 11 PCs, 5 of which are my own ones, of varying age and spec from 2 Desktops, 2 Laptops and a Netbook.

Do you not already have a retail version, if not what version do you have? is it an upgrade disk from your OEM maker as in HP, DELL, Sony etc or a downloaded version found on the internet?

Thanks Tim. Quality machine, the OP did more checking than I ever would have before a reformat.:eek I hate reformatting! Just so everyone knows.;) I'm the same as FEDUP, custom build with W7 Ult. though the OP did mention it was a custom build I believe.

Start from scratch man, check memory and HD. Memtest86+ and your HDD makers utility. You've got nothing to lose at this point before RMA'ing.

BTW, event logs never helped me. Perhaps the dump will be better.

I just bought Win 7 Home premium and installed th 64 bit OS. I have had it a week now so to early to tell.
Have had no problem except with an old old old HP printer that I finally got the drivers for.
    I rate it a 8.5 just because I never give anything new a 10!

I'm running a clean install of Windows 7x32. To date, I have had no driver issues. Anything that I have plugged in has worked perfectly. It runs very smooth and fast on a 2.8GHz pentium with 4GB of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 4500 graphics card.

Faster and much more agreeable than Vista and I'd say it's a very close second to XP. Upgrades can be a problem sometimes. You may want to consider a clean install.

Asking for help and telling us that we suck will definitely not work well here.
