I am still trying to figure out my problem. I need help with my window 7. How can I see the format ( extention i.e., .xls, doc,mp3, cda) I cannot get my burned cd's to play on any of my cd players except my DVD player that is built into my Panosonic TV. I have gone thru umpteen CD that will not play on anything but the DVD player. Can you direct me to where I might get some assistance, or how I can trouble shoot this problem? I cannot see what format the burner has burned the cd's into. Please advise me.

    Hi,

In any Explore window, click the Organize link at the top left. Select Folder and Search options. Under the View tab untick the box for "Hide extensions for Known Filetypes" and Apply/OK. That should allow you to see the three letter extensions.

I would recommend trying CDBurnerXP to attempt a burn of your audio discs. It is a reliable burning program. It appears you would try data disc as that says in smaller type that it is for MP3-CDs. If that doesn't work then you could try the Audio disc option. The important part of either type burn would be to choose to Finalize the disc when prompted as this makes the disc readable by the most number of machines. (Sorry, I can't give more specific instructions as I don't burn mp3s, but it would only cost 2 discs to try both options.)

How can I see the file extentions in Windows 7 i.e., .xls, .doc etc? None of my file windows show them.

I believe somewhere a box is checked that tells the burner to burn in DVD because all my burns no matter from what program are only playing on my DVD player.

Sounds like you are burning at 24 bit, might want to try 16 bit...
