Windows 8.1 is in which folder?

I downloaded (from the Microsoft "Store" Desktop tile) and installed Windows 8.1 Professional 64bit on a desktop PC running Windows 8.0 Professional 64bit.

I have a laptop which is running Windows 8.0 Professional 64bit which I also want to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Is it possible to use the downloaded Windows 8.1 file(s) I have on my desktop PC (PS, where are they located?) and run it on my laptop to upgrade that? I really don't want to spend time on a rather slow ADSL modem re-downloading over 3Gb of files if I don't need to.

Any suggestions which work would be appreciated.

    Many thanks.

You have to purchase the .iso & key, or find a faster Internet connection, to update the pc with. It is just easier sometimes, to let it run overnight, to download the files, and then do the updating after they have been downloaded from the store.

8.1 is a free update from Microsoft.

    No need to purchase anything.

@ OP: brownizs has the best option, do it overnight. Microsoft has already said they will not be giving ISOs of 8.1 to retail customers.

Otherwise, you could find an MSDN copy and use your existing key if its retail. Totally legit, but honestly it isn't worth the hassle and is still an equally large download.

At other posters: DO NOT post links to the ISO here.

Edit: look for a hidden folder called $Windows.~BT on your updated machine. If its there, see if it is a few gigs in size. If yes, move it over to other machine to the same location and start the store upgrade. See if it allows those files to be used.

MS does not even have the Enterprise info updated Adrynalyne. Otherwise, that would be the best option for the OP to understand what they could do as an offline update. I did find some info that would have possibly worked, but due to the way 8 is setup, I doubt that it would do anything.

What gobblegook is this as MSFT does have updated Enterprise info if the info is Windows 8.1 Enterprise as MSDN has it listed (10/17/2013), well it does in my list/account info and I'm looking at it now, the OP did not mention Enterprise at all and neither did Adrynalyne

sadly for Peter333 the option sadly is to run the updater on the other PC and take the 3,5gb +/- hit on bandwidth unless they have a MSDN account and can get the correct version of Windows 8.1 they have, but then that's a hit on bandwidth anyways of 3.5GB to gain the full file.

Yeah, in the end I did the overnight download as every man and his dog.....lol! Probably why it took so long. Now for my next question after my installation of Windows 8.1...........
