..and so far, I have hard-wired it to Router as well, still is not detecting, and also not detecting usual list of many neighbors networks.

Can someone help me get this connected to the internet? I made sure I have the Router network name right, and the password.

Thanks, I'll wait and see if anyone is around to help me ;) Denise

PS When I try to enter the info on my Router, and click enter I get a message that says "The wizard cannot create the connection.

    Brand and model of computer?
Have you tried turning off the router and modem then hard wiring it to the modem?

Also we can't guess what wizard you are using because you've failed to mention the brand and model of router.

Yes, I've done a lot since I posted this. I checked in Device Manager, no yellow flags, I can't even get System Restore Point, it's greyed out. There's no audio, but the USB ports are working so I was thinking of downloading Malwarebytes (or some program) to run a scan for viruses/malware because there is so little I can even check without internet.

It's a Windows 8.1, HP Laptop, doesn't give a Model, but it says 2013, 64 bit OS and 64 bit based processor. All I've found so far.

I am now trying to boot from a USB Flashdrive with Windows Defender Offline I downloaded here at MJ. I plugged it in and restarted the laptop and get this error message. So I can't get into BIOS to change the default boot to the USB. I also noticed that the D drive has is almost full and is says recovery. I wasn't going to try that without talking to someone though first Edit: I can see the files on the flashdrive from the laptop I'm working on so I don't understand why the laptop isn't seeing them, or "not authenticating" them ?? leos 3.jpg :

I've had eye surgery last week and I really can not see your images very well.
I was able to read what the first image showed
    https://windowsreport.com/selected-boot-image-not-authenticate/
but since you are unable to get into the BIOS, you can't fix this.
All I can say is keep trying to get into the BIOS so you can do what the article says.

    Hi Plodr,

Glad you are doing good after surgery, and I'm sorry about the poor images. I had to shoot them from my phone. I think I may be on the right track now, at least in finding what the whole issue is. It's a monster project for me but I learn from these kinds of things :) I'm getting HP PC Hardware Diagnostics downloaded to flashdrive, and then will see if I can get that uploaded to the 2013 HP Laptop.

I'm thinking I will ask my neighbor if he wants me to put another hard-drive into this, although I don't know that would fix the issues. I don't want to bother you with details, but if you want to know more and are up to it. I'll fill you in, Denise PS if it's the cataract surgery, a couple of my friends have done really well having it ;)

No, not cataract surgery. I had cataract surgery a few years ago and it was miraculous the improvement in my vision.

Morning @plodr if it's morning where you are ;) Wonderful to hear that about your earlier surgery.

I'm just up, and I see my HP Hardware Diagnostics is still looping after 19 hours. I was given the info on Ten Forums to run the tests. No errors, all Passing. I'm about out of ideas getting my friends laptop to connect to the internet. I wanted to load up (from flashdrive) Malwarebytes but I can't get it to "save" to my fd. Tried to get to a "save link as" but the downloads I've tried don't have that. Probably protecting the program from being stolen etc. I can't do much at all from the laptop with no internet.

    Hey you alls,

Do you know any place online to find drivers or other parts for older laptops like the one I'm working on? I'll add the HP Link I finally found with all the info on it, but the site doesn't carry the drivers, or any software on that model any longer ;(

Thanks so much @_nullptr I am hoping I can download those to my flashdrive, then upload them to the laptop. Since I'm not getting any yellow flags and when all "say" they are "working properly" it still doesn't make sense that it would hurt to replace them with new ones, I'll do that. If I can just get it connected with the internet, I'm going to do a lot of updating, and hopefully get it updated to Windows 10 ;)
