Only way you would know, is by plugging it in and letting Windows 8 load any drivers that may be needed.

I personally went with a Cirago NUS2000 Network USB hub, so that I can place my USB drives at a location near the switch & router, and be able to access from any computer in the house.

If I need to ever take it with me, I just hit the eject button and go. That may be the better option for you, if you are going to share this drive with multiple computers in the house. Plus side is, no drivers to worry about loading on computers.

    Hi

as above posted I would imagine that this HDD would work with Windows 8 as it worked with Vista ok.

Majority of HDDs be they external or internal work ok with Windows 8

What kind of performance, (Mbytes/sec) do you get with the nus2000 over your network? Thinking about getting one.

    Thanks

Transferring a 151mb file from the Toshiba Canvio 1TB that I have on it, through our Netgear GS108, while the laptop is connected to a Trendnet TEW-690ap, which is also connected through a Trendnet TEG-S50g, I am getting sustained transfer rate of 9.92MB/s on it.

All we are using the Canvio for, is mainly photos, iTunes downloads, and some documents that we keep a copy local, that are also in our cloud drive at box.com and mirrored also to a private Owncloud cloud server, that are documents that we cannot afford to lose the digital copy, so redundancy is the key here.

I am adding a Iomega ix2 for IP camera storage this week, since figuring what I am paying in a year's time for a cloud dvr storage solution, I can put that towards a private storage solution.

Thanks for the info. Thinking of connecting a bunch is 2tb WD element drives and then connect to my rtn66u for my wireless network. All the nus2000 reviews kinda had me scared. 10-12 Mb/sec is all I can really get over my 5ghz. This 60 buck purchase will hold me till I get a real nas.
