I recommend you try Windows 8.1 before doing that.

Uninstall and install Windows 7. Now if you had asked, how to get the desktop to be my main user interface, vs. the Metro interface that comes up when you boot into Windows 8, all of us would state to go with either Windows 8.1, use a third party software like Stardock software Start8, to be able to go directly to the Desktop interface, when logging into the OS.
