When I turn on the computer, it says: Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM). It is a very old Hewlett Packard running Windows 95.

    Hi Tina,

Start the computer with the start up disk in the floppy drive. At the a:\> prompt type: sys c: and press enter. When it's done, remove the disk and reboot.

Steve, my W95 memory is rusty. I think this is oK for W98, but for W95 doesn't the szystem files have to be the first things loaded. In W98, I think, you can sys at anytime and booting up will find the relevant files. Bazza

I think it is right Bazza, I am a little rusty also on 95. Maybe we can get someone to confirm it just in case.

My Win95 is even rustier but remember that being right...

Use boot floppy and at command prompt type a:sys c: [enter] then you will ahve some HD activity in which A: will show change to C: and hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and the pc will reboot.

OK EDIT time, just shows I can be possibly wrong ;) ..... this is the resolution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q120822/

Thanks guys for all the help! I had to go to BootDisk.com to get a book disk because she didn't have one. So, I put the disc in and started the computer. She gets a starting screen with the bottom corner saying F2 for startup. Then it goes to a black screen that says something about I/O and remove disc and hit any key ....which I do, but it keeps giving me the same thing. So, I took the disc out. Any suggestions from there?
