Windows 98 "Geeked Up"

I am working on a friend's computer. He is using Windows 98 SE. He recently started having problems when he would click on a link or try to click on a start button (like when downloading updates), his computer would not open the link or do anything with the start, continue or next buttons. Anybody got any ideas of what could be causing this. He recently deleted Norton from his system and also doesn't have any kind of firewall or spyware/adware protection. I have tried everything I know to no avail. Also, are there any anti-spyware programs compatible with 98 SE?

 

I can't get his internet connection to work now. He is using Comcast High Speed Cable as his provider. Any other ideas?

 

I also downloaded Hijack This as a friend recommended but I don't understand a thing it is talking about.

 

Does MG have clamwin?

 

If you get his internet working click on the link below for the Mcrepair Tool, see if that solves the link(s) issue.

Just download and run it. Be sure to answer "yes" to everything, that's important. When it's done restart your computer and that should hopefully fix your problem.

Thanks, I am downloading all these files from the forum linked above now and will try them tomorrow when I go back over to his house to try and fix the system.

 

Also, do I need some kind of registry cleaner?
