Windows 98 upgrade to 98SE/need help

About 6 months ago I got a windows 08 SE c/d and installed it on my Sony lap top,running windows 98,it all worked out very well.
For the last few days the lap top has been doing funning thing things,so I used the [ system recovery CD ] and it worked just fine,now the bad thing,I used the same windows 98 SE c/d to install the 98se,but it won't let me,I get this message [ can not up grade need windows 98 upgrade ?]
What is going on?
I also hace a Windows 98 SE c/d but when I try to install it I get a message that says[your system already has a window system installed??
Is there a way to remove my windows 98 and then install the windows 98se c/d?

You can use Fdisk.
Did your 98se cd come with startup floppy, if so has fdisk in it.
Fdisk can be dowloaded from web, bootdisk.com er something like that, google it (fdisk)

Fdisk is easy to use better to use links, then me to type and miss instruction.
the last link check first Best IMO, as has screen shot, not as boring as other

 

you probably wont need to use FDISK if you are keeping the partitons exactly as they were before, you will however need to format your drive

Thundermoon, First time I have come across recommended maximum size of 8gig for W98.
What difference does it make/ Any information links that I can check out? I have a 30gig and W98. Partition Magic has split that into 2 x 15gig approximately for backups. Baz
