windows 98se install problem:(

every time i try to install windows 98 on this pc i just built out of old pc parts well everytime i go to install i get a error to put in disk 3???????? i thought windows 98se was just one disk? and other times it starts the system test and starts loading the stuff needed to install windows it locks up at 100% and does nothing could my harddrive be bad or could it be the windows cd?


i dont think you need the spec's of the parts
but heres the hdd spec's if you need it. its a WD 4gig hdd yea its old but i want this pc just for internet and thats it

 

check your memory it may be bad or not seated right

 

that dont really sound right how could ram be causeing windows install problems i thought if ram was bad or not seated it would not get past the ram test for the pc right when you push the power butten?

 

How did you format and install? ie what steps did you take etc?

Also, is this Windows 98 or 98 SE?

 

lets see there was nothing on the drive in the first place so this is what i did..

started the pc with windows 98SE cd in the cd-drive had it start windows with cd-rom support and when i got to the dos line i had it format the HDD via D:\format C:
thin after it got done with the format i typed D:\setup
and it ran through the scandisk part with out a problem
but thin when you get that blue and white screen for it to start loading stuff to install windows it will give me a error to put in disk3???? or it will just lock up at 100% when loading the stuff needed to install 98SE i installed windows 98SE countless times and never had this happen before thats why i have no idea on how to fix it..

 

That is strange!

This is a Windows 98 SE CD isn't it? (Not a recovery CD) Sorry to ask stupid questions, but this is weird.

When you are in c: what do you get when you type in dir ?


BTW, what part of THIS does it stop at?

 

yes it is a windows 98se disk not a recovery one. and it stops on this one at 100% it locks up and just atop of the little window a black box shows up i will give you a anwser on the other later as i am redoing the bulid to see if i did something wornghttp://www.windowsreinstall.com/win98/images/Image12.gif
