can someone please quickly tell me what the RUN command is for the built-in windows 9x utilty? I mean the one that tell you all your mobo details, used memory slots, hardware/software etc. I've used it before but can't for the life of me think what it's called!

    Try "MSINFO"

But I think this is available only from Windows 98SE

Windows 98SE is the same as 9x.

I dont think so for the following reasons:
Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) was released to fix bugs and acted as a small incremental update to Windows 98. It gave users enhanced hardware compatibility and Internet features. Windows 98 SE included Internet Explorer 5 and Microsoft Windows NetMeeting version 3.0 conferencing software. It also included DirectX 6.1, which introduced Internet connection sharing (ICS) to and a variety of Windows multimedia improvements.

In the area of updates Win98 SE included all the latest updates for Windows 98 including Year 2000 updates, & USB. In the area of software Win98 SE updated versions of Internet Explorer, outlook express, windows media player, DirectX, and NetMeeting. In the area of Drivers & Support - Additional support for latest technology such as MMX, USB, & Pentium III where added.

And most of all it was not a SP update. It was a complete NEW LAUNCH!!

Yea, but I have Windows 98SE and on my HiJack This logs it says Windows 9x. And whenever I download files from the internet that says 9x,Me,2000,XP only I download it and it works perfectly on my computer.

Thats because the Win98 (First Edition) was outdated as soon as the SE was released and there was no support for the FE for any software. But still some ppl have the FE.

OK thanks for that. Sorry to have caused the little bust-up between you two!

Just to throw another log into the fire; for my part, I believe that 9x stands for any MS Windows edition that begins with 9. e.g. Win 95, Win 98, Win 98SE, and often Win ME falls into the same category when choosing compatible software.
