windows auto updating won't stop

I updated stuff manually and have sp1 but can't stop windows from auto updating no matter through the use of safexp or throught system in control panel. It is running and I know it is because I see it in task manager and everytime I check in the system in control panel it is in auto. I also notice that safexp has that setting changed each time I turn on my pc to accept auto. I don't know what to do so any real help would be appreciated. I did install the new updater for windows updates but since I have sp1 I do all the updates manully until I switching over to sp2 very very soon.

 

Go to Control pannel-> System->auto update-> turn off update -> OK

 

I did and it still rechecks itself to auto download when I start up. This is why I am really getting ticked off by this re-self checking auto updating stuff. Any other suggestions, please.

 

Start > Run

type service.msc [ENTER]

Click-on Ok

Right-click Automatic Update

Select Properties

Service Status click-on Stop

Service Type select Disabled

Click-on OK

 

Hey thanks it looks like this was the problem. I haven't restarted but this is the only thing that seems to have been the source. It was enabled on startup automatically and this was causing the re-enabled windows updating. Thanks Shadow Puter Dude!
