Do any other computers connect through the router & modem that you have, that this computer was using? What third part Anti-Virus/Internet Security software are you using on this machine? What does it show in Device Manager, for the Network adapter that you are connecting the computer to the router & modem, to get online.

No other computers connect to the modem. I only have a firewall that was on the computer when I got it. And im not very good with computers so the last part about device manager is lost on me. I apologize

Hi my friend , welcome to MG's :major

You can go to Start - Run devmgmt.msc - ok , it's what you need entering in Device Manager as brownizs told you about , if you are able to access in another computer you can download this tool

Uninstall the Internet Security software and see if then you can connect to the outside world.

Who is your provider, what modem do you have, do you have a router between the modem & your computer, or is your modem one of those that has the router built into it?
