"Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted..."

Today I got this error. I was in a rush and moved my entire My Documents folder to my desktop to do some work and then shut my computer off. When I restarted it did a ChkDsk which seemed to fix the profile problem as everything is normal, but my entire My Documents folder is empty and none of the files are anywhere to be seen.

Tomorrow I plan to take it to a shop and see if they can get the data off the harddrive somehow but is there anything else I can do?

Help?

 

Try this recovery tool it will recover all files that have been deleted and also lets you know which are good to recover and which are not !

Have you tried a system recovery from before you moved the folder?

 

See if that's the *actual* profile you're thinking it is, or a derivative/copy/clone...

GOTO "My Computer > C:\ > Documents and Settings" and look at your profiles.

I would be willing to bet (not much, but hey, it helps me make my point!) that your original profile still has all of your files in the My Documents folder.

See my recent thread for more info. I could [always] be wrong, but I'd at least try it and see... nothin' to lose, anyway!

 

I wish it'd been that easy. I ended up having to mount the drive on and use Recuva to access them.. luckily 95% of the files hadn't been overwritten.
