When I boot my computer it mentions that the file "c:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt," and I can't continue booting up Windows. My only option that I have upon startup is to run the Windows Recovery Console (my PC did not come with a Windows CD but instead came with a seperate partition that allows me to Re-install Windows at startup if anything goes wrong.

Buy my question is, is there a way I can replace the corrupt file without having to completely wipeout my system? I made a Recovery CD for my PC about a month ago using Retrospect software. Maybe this CD has the file that I'm looking for except I have no idea how to copy it to the right folder (if this would even fix the problem). Any advice?

Take a look at this link. You would be looking for the second highest number of RP# as the folder to use.

You could try it with just the system file. Or rename the current "c:\windows\system32\config\software file to "c:\windows\system32\config\software.old before copying over the software file.
