windows could not start .... help !

compaq presario 900, message reads.. windows could not start because of a problem with the software, please report this problem as load needed DLLS for kernel ?
pc will not start up even in safe mode, do not have the xp home disk to reboot from disk ,which it will do, (typical !)
if i search for it i get endless lists and dont know which i need,
please help, pc knowledge slim.

If you can't get into safe mode and don't have a CD you should call Compaq and have them send you a restore CD. Or borrow a friend's CD and see if you can use a restore point.

i put the xp cd in, blue screen, loads files then stops saying error code 7?. will contact compaq for recovery cd, thanks for your help
