Windows default install

Hi,

I have my harddrive partitioned. C is for the OS only and F for programs etc.

Is there a way that i can get windows to install to f:\program files instead of c:\program files

Not sure what your asking. I have a similar set up C: for the OS and D: for programs. Both Drives have a Program Files folders in each.

Are you saying that you want to reinstall windows on your F Drive? If that's the case yes you should be able to specify it during initialization.

Say if i downloaded a program. eg. MSN Messenger

When i go to install the program it will automatically try to install to c:\program files\
i know it can be changed during installation.

Is there anyway i can get programs to automatically in the f:\program files\

 

some can, that one probally can't since its ment to work with IE and OE.

 

Indeed you can...

Bring up the registry.

Start, Run, type in: Regedit (press enter)

Migrate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Make sure that "CurrentVersion" is highlighted. On the right, you should see the key "ProgramFilesDir".

If you double click this key, you should have a popup screen called "Edit String".

You will want to change this, to the desired path. Be it, d:\Program Files, z:\program files, or whatever.

After you have changed this, press ok, then exit regedit, then reboot.

For now on, the default path SHOULD be what you have typed in....
