Windows Defender Disk Noise

    Recently I upgraded to Windows Defender Beta. Each evening I schedule a deep scan that lasts about 10 minutes. About 30 seconds before the scan ends, my PC begins making a loud grating noise. The noise comes in bursts of 3-5 seconds and ends when the scan ends shortly thereafter.

    Is this normal for Windows Defender?

    Or am I the only one?

    Do you have a shortcut to your floppy on the desktop?

    The disk sounds are coming from a link to the floppy on my PC, as I have an icon in the desktop to the floppy drive and if no floppy is in the drive it trys to access, cannot access a floppy as one is not in the drive.. hence the grinding noise.

    Were you posting similar to me Mada? guess my typing fingers are slightly quicker... albiet, my grammar sucks!


    to add a bit more.. I had a quick look in the settings for Defender and their is no option I can see to stop scanning of any drive thats attached to your PC, and to add this is normal occurance when floppy drive is installed, its possible that in the next build of the Beta they may add fuctionality to turn off certain drives or at least the floppy.

    Actually, I was posting, and I had completely overlooked the floppy drive. I erased my post so I wouldn't look so much like a dummy. :D
