I don't like it. I'd say the reviews you've heard are accurate. It only ever flagged legitimate apps for me. Not a single REAL threat.

It is on my parents machine. I don't know if it is good or not because it has never detected anything. That alone is enough to make me think M$ has it running a little too much in the background.
I know my mom visits coupon sites and opens spam mail (I find this proof when I run spy-bot). But the Windows Defender logs always show absolutely nothing.

Yeah, it's the only security I've had on an Xp test machine (Dell ) for the past year, and it has never found or blocked anything. but then I've had no malware either using the limited account for surfing. But nor has it noticeably reduced performance.

    Most malware comes from downloads.

I never get malware. So I dont know if its working or not.

    SNAP!

But if your fine without it now Goran, I wouldnt bother, if it came with your OS fine, but I wouldnt add it for the sake of adding it.

It needs more work but as MS are late in the game on this antimalware stuff compaired to other apps they have a big catchup to do, but being honest I dont rate Ad-Aware these days either, it plays too heavy on flagging cookies to up its detection rates and scare users into thinking they have malware for my liking.

It does have some nice tools tho, the Explorers eg. Startup manager is good.

I should have added something along these lines as well. It isn't bad. I have it on my machine too.
I suppose I am used to the fun days before they had XP and I was called on weekly to "make this thing work right again."

I currently use it on one machine to just be up to date with it, in case I ever think I may really need it. It has killed one application in the past before, wish it hadn't of. :cry

In past when it was Microsoft Anti-Spyware it helped out a lot. But since then, I started using Spyware Blaster and many other tools.

I looked into SpywareGuard, it doesn't seem to have been developed for four years - I thought that was a bit too ancient. So I replaced Defender with Spyware Terminator.

Yes,but Spyware terminator have known issue with realtime protection.I saw something about Spyware doctor being free for google pack, but have restrected deletion.

What issues are those? I haven't heard of any. One thing I will say, its realtime protection is a little bit annoying. I'm considering trying Arovax Shield instead, it's said to run silently in the background, which would be a refreshing change. It seems to be a shield only, however, no scanner at all.

The other choice I considered is Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware. None of the information on it says anything about having the ability to quarantine suspect files, though - and if it lacks a quarantine, that's a deal-breaker as far as I'm concerned. False positives can happen with any program, and I want the ability to easily reverse changes if they turn out to be mistakes.

Thanks for the replys,I will check BOClean and see how it is.

Ah, so BOclean is also just a shield, not a scanner - their website doesn't make that clear. Sorry to hear it did so poorly.

Try it for yourself--zbd21 has a nack for posting links, instead of solid information.

Yeah, you shouldn't reject a program based on just one review. Hard to tell how well it's working, though, unless you're downloading malware (I rarely get any, so I can't tell). You might try searching for some more tests - I always try for at least a second opinion.

Spyware Terminator was acting buggy, so now I'm trying Arovax Shield - much less obtrusive, and uses about an eighth of the memory. I hope it works well - I haven't yet done a thorough check of the reviews, though the ones I've seen were favorable.
