Windows Defender vs. (?) Trend Micro

I am using Trend Micro AV on a Windows Vista Business 32-bit machine (Lenovo Thinkpad T61). I am using Trend Micro (hereafter TM) specifically because it is said to play well with my primary business software (Time Matters Enterprise FWIW), which doesn't like to be scanned.

When I plugged my laptop in at work this morning after the long weekend, Windows Defender (hereafter WD) asked me if it could run a scan (and I let it).

Apparently WD has been running a scan daily at noon or something (I can't check the details right now because it is still scanning away). Much to my surprise!

So. To ask the obvious question, doesn't this mean I have two real-time pieces of protection running? Shouldn't I disable one of them, like this aspect of WD?

As far as I know I haven't experienced problems yet from this, but I thought the Conventional Wisdom was one of each kind of program, and TM seems to be fine as my AV program.

    Hi

Yes that is general rule of thumb, but not really seen any issues with running WD and another realtime AV scanner, Win Defender in Vista is much better than that of its XP counterpart.

And if its been running a scan and not caused you any issues, I would just let it continue.
