   Today, I have tried to update Windows Defender. It has failed despite several attempts. I attach a screenshot of what I see when it fails. As can be seen on the attached image no details or error code are provided.

   I run MS Security Essentials. (four Windows 7 computers) It updates without any help from me. Looking at my history (in Windows updates) it updated twice on the 28th and on the 30th. I have Windows updates turned off on all computers but the security program will still update on its own.
   
   If you are using Windows Defender on a Windows 8.1 or 10 computer, let it update on its own. You don't need to force an update.
