About a year ago I encrypted a map in windows xp pro using windows encryption (encrypt contents to secure data @ right-mouse --> properties --> advanced) after a while i had to re-install my windows and when i tried to open the files from that map again it said that i didnt have the privileges... when trying to disable encryption it says the same...

anyone have an idea on how to fix this? thanks in advance!

Are you using an administrative account?

well the problem is that i used it when encrypting it... so the encryption is based on THAT administrator account and not on the one im using on my newer windows installation.

Word for word, what is the EXACT error message you are getting?

If it says something about priveledges, then try taking ownership of that folder/file. Then changing permissions.

    Btw, Home or Pro?

If he used EFS, and lost the account created by it by reinstalling...the encryption will have to be broken brute force.

That means, find an application that cuts through EFS.

    Havent seen any myself.

Without a Data Recovery Agent assigned to the file (that account would have been wiped too), its lost.
