Windows error message...what does it mean?

When I start up my computer every morning, I receive an error message...."SmartBridge Alerts: MotiveSB.exe--Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL."

I click "OK," the message goes away and life goes on. But what does it mean? Is it a problem? If so, how can I fix it?

I have a Dell Dimensions E310 and I run Windows XP.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Agreed! I've been doing some testing on this problem.

The error message means that the program, MotiveSB.exe cannot find code it wants to use in the file, PSAPI.DLL.

As far as I can tell, MotiveSB.exe is part of Verizon Online's (VOL) support software. If you do not use this software, we can disable it from running at startup, and that should stop the message. (At least until we run ANOTHER program that wants the same code) Post back if this interests you.

Otherwise, we have to make sure that MotiveSB.exe can find the LATEST version of PSAPI.dll, as it will be most likely to have the code.

I've searched my entire hard drive, and found 4 copies of PSAPI.dll. 1 was found in c:\windows\system32, and was the latest version. Others were found in program file folders, were OLDER versions, and presumably came with the software. I've renamed these older versions, and forced these applications to use the latest version. This has caused no problems with any of these applications.

Ok, I've checked out the microsoft communities and the consensus seems to point to renaming the PSAPI.DLL files. I searched and found 11 of them, too. Two were in folders called "i386," two were in "Windows system 32," four were in "SBC Self Support tool," two were in "Hewlett Packard," and one was in "Adobe Acrobat 7.0."

Which ones should I rename? My printer is an HP, I use SBC internet service (which is once again ATT!!!), and I have Adobe 7.0.

One last question--when I double click on one of the PSAPI.DLL files, it doesn't let me rename it; a new window appears and asks, "Select a destination." What steps do I need to follow to rename them?

    Thanx.

I can't seem to re-name the PSAPI.DLL files. Could someone walk me through it? I can click on the file, but I can't type in a new name.
