    Greetings all,

    Whenever I use my explorer to go into my maps explorer tends to crash.
    Sometimes immediatly sometimes after a couple of seconds.
    I ran a viruscheck and combining that log with the fault-popup from windows I am 90% sure this is the problem:

    Catched Exception ScanDirectory:\\?\C:\
    ACCESS_VIOLATION
    EAX = 00000000 EBX = 01B10000
    ECX = 7C91003D EDX = 00000000
    ESI = 7C80DE85 EDI = 00000066
    EIP = 367B2D31 EBP = 762D7D46
    ESP = 01DCD3BC Flg = 00010246
    CS = 00000023 SS = 0000001B

    The explenation windows gave me was that something uses memory only useable by the system or something...

    After some research I tried disabling DEP (date execution protection) but that didn't make a difference.

    Can somebody give me some advice on continuing my process of fixing my explorer. I read about shellExView and disabling context menu handlers ...

    Hi

    Yes, first off what Windows version you using and what is ment by "go into my maps" what is my maps? is this a folder of images or a software application?

    But to answer your question yes disabling context menu handlers with ShellExView could find the culprit as many of these errors are caused by corrupted or incompatible software. Disable all non Microsoft context manu handlers and enable one at a time to see if you have this crash.

    Explorer crashes like this can also be malware infestations, so do have your PC scanned and checked out , we have a forum for this here and this would be the guide to follow READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and if anything is found start a new thread in malware and attach the logs there.

    I'm using Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service pack 3.
    And yes with my maps i mean my folders (sorry language dialect).

    That Acces_violation was a result in my Avira Antivir Professional.

    But I'll try disabling the menu handlers and if that doesnt help then the malware removal this weekend (busy working now) and if that doesn't do it I'll return.

    Thank you for your response Halo.

    Disabling all non microsoft contect menu handlers did not solve the explorer crashes... I'll move on to the mallware section and if my problem isn't solved there, I shall return here.
