    For those Windows Explorer experts...

I have had this problem from time to time for years and can't figure it out.

When I drag a file from the right hand pane in windows explorer and drop in onto the selected highlighted folder in the left hand pane, sometimes the file is dropped into the folder above or the folder below the selected highlighted folder. Can this be fixed? It is very frustrating at times...

I am running WinXP Home Edition on a home built PC with a screen resolution of 1600 x 1200.

    Any ideas please...

    Thanks

    Chuck

But the issue I am talking about is in Windows Explorer, not dropping a file into a folder icon on the desktop.

In Windows Explorer the folder is highlighted as you drag a file from the right side of the screen over folders on the left side of the screen. There is no white bar. The problem is that when you release the mouse button to drop the file you are dragging, it does not always drop into the highlighted folder as one expects it should.

What is going on here. Is there a issue with windows explorer?

Hopefully you'll get this reply - it's been a while since it was posted but I've only just seen it.

Chances are that you're moving the mouse fractionally while dragging and the graphics aren't catching up. So although it looks like you have highlighted the correct folder, you are actually resting over a different one when you release the mouse button. This happens to me regularly and if it's going to be a nuisance if it ends up in the wrong folder, I right-click and drag instead and wait for the dialog box to come up - this gives the graphics a chance to catch up and me to see if it looks right. If I'm in doubt, I cancel and try again.

Make sure that when you drag, you pause over the folder you want to drop into and check that the mouse pointer is resting over the correct folder before releasing the mouse button. I've just been testing and proved that it's quite possible on our computer to drop a file in a different folder to the one that stays highlighted so I'm guessing that's probably what's happening for you, too.

    :)
