Well i guess everyone has heard alot of this but i'm having more and more problem with this,It's comes up in a windows error reporting saying "Windows Explorer Has encounterd a problem and needs to close" Then the taskbar, start menu, Tray icons, tray and destop icons are gone, only the wallpaper still viewable they'll all come back after a few seconds but all programs that were open are closed. Now i ran a diagnostic that came with my PC for the HDD and all tests were negative for errors now i'm starting to wonder if it is a software problem i don't know.

It's not a virus ive run alot of virus and spyware scanners and they found nothing.Anyone know of any diagnostic that would detect any kind of software or hardware causing serious trouble like this.Or if anyone knows a solution for this?

EDIT: i've tried turning off error reporting it just doesn't alert me of it but it'll still do it anyway.

    Hi
I have just landed in this website by doing a search on some of the problems that i am having at the moment, besides this error that you mention i believe my IE has been hijacked ... everytime i log on i get about:blank as my home page ! Besides being very fustrating i can not get rid of it and have seen a couple of suggestions but has anyone actually had the same thingand managed to get rid of it permanently ???
Also I keep getting a new webpage loading on its own with various garble in it usially something like Xtrem.com and the like.. then when you actually try to view this page it is an error and has a link to a webpage called Karl_marx.ru i am imagining that i have a virus of some sort (i am fairly clueless) I have run my virus detector and also set up a fire wall but these problems are persisting and its starting to be very annoying. I was wondering if there is anyone out there having the same issues.. the Karl_marx one is very persistant and i dont know if it is linked with the about:blank and also the Windows Explorer error box that keeps appearing.
    =) Kat

Unfortunatley, anti-virus is not enough these days.
    You have spyware.
Search da net for Spybot search and destroy and Adaware. Both are free.
Install both programs and just follow the instructions. It should help.

Well, I would need to know more information. What version of windows do you run? What programs are running when this occurs? Does it keep happening when you run the same application(s)? And most important the computer's specs.

There are many things which can cause that error. That's why the error message itself is so vague. The strongarm solution is to re-install your OS.

If you are running XP, read up on system restore. That might help you avoid re-building your machine.

And to get your homepage back, in the internet explorer window, click the tools menu > then click the internet options > a window will open and your homepage will be at the top in a text box. type in what address you want for your homepage or press the use default button to change it back to what it was when the windows was first installed on the computer.
