Windows Explorer Keeps Crashing in WinXP

Hi:

I am having trouble with Window Explorer. I have checked out all posts regarding this issue, but none of them apply here, as far as I can tell.

I am using WinXp Home Ed. When I open Windows Explorer and move files from one folder to another, or rename them in the same drive, it sometimes let me do a couple of them, but always crashes at some point. I have taken screen prints of:

Occasionally, I get a DrWatson Debugger crash with it. I have done some research and it looks like I might be able to repair it, if I use the WinXP install disk. I've tried that, but for some reason, my pc doesn't recognize the disk. I have tried my husband's disk as well, and the pc doesn't recognize either of them.

Can anyone help me? I really don't want to have to format my disk or reinstall windows again. I did reinstall it already and I can't remember why.

What happens when you try the disc? Do you get any message?

Can you hear the disc running - perhaps you don't have the BIOS set to read the disc on boot??? Did you press a key when it asked you if you wanted to boot off the disc (if it got that far)?

Do you have a restore point back to before the problem started? You could try restoring to then.

Maybe try it in Safe Mode as well. See what happens.

Do you have SP2 and all updates, or SP3 and all updates installed?

Have you checked for malware?

How is your hard drive? How is the RAM? How old is the computer? Do you have plenty of storage available?

You could try replacing explorer.exe with a copy from your husband's computer.

That might do for starters.
