    Hello,

Everytime I mouse over a certain folder on my secondary hard drive, it crashes my windows explorer. I'm pretty sure it's not a virus, and this has happened before. I somehow deleted the folder the file was in last time, and it was fixed. But i guess it's back now. Maybe it's a bad area on the hard drive? Not sure how i fixed it before. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Major Geeks forums!

Justin, we will need a little more information on your system before we can really suggest anything. What version of Windows are you running? Are you up to date with all your anti-virus software? When is the last time you ran a defrag and a scandisk on both of the hard drives? Have you tried running a registry cleaner? Can you access the same folder going through My Computer rather than directly through Windows Explorer? Have you run any spyware removal programs?

Get back to us and we can try to help from there.

    Here is all the info:

Windows xp, Service pack 2 with all the updates.
Norton AntiVirus 2006, updated every day.
Anytime i try to access this ceratin area of my hard drive (through explorer, virus scan, defrag, disc check, etc.) it says windows explorer had to close.
i checked my registry and it's fine. since this is a problem with my secondary hard drive, i would think the registry would not be a problem.

Confused about the my computer/explorer thing. when i click on my computer, it opens up an explorer window.

As for spyware, it's not that but explorer quits when i go near the file at all, with any program whatsoever.

I'm assuming there is a bad sector or something on the hard drive. Like i said, i had this problem before.

If you need any more info, just let me know!!
    And thanks a bunch.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if you can access the drive that way. You might be able to do a chkdsk from there or at least schedule one. There are disk utilities to scan for bad sectors on hard drives which will boot without loading Windows. The one I use is SpinRite From Grisoft.com there may be others also.
