Hello! I've notice lately that my Windows Explorer kept on crashing. Loading takes a lot of time. As I observed with this continuous crashes. I've noticed that only the folders with video file on it is crashing.

This crash is not limited to the folder on my C: drive but it also occur to my external hard drive. As long as there is a video file, it kept on crashing if interrupted with its loading.

I think the problem lies on Windows Explorer. Could anyone please help me this? Thanks!

    Here are my specs:

    Windows Vista SP2 *UPDATED*
    space: 187GB used, 100GB free

By the way, I have SpeedUpMyPC installed on my desktop. I've included this website, just in case, since its a program that had done tweaks on my desktop. Though, I don't think this one cause the problem.

    Greetings, training4life.

Does the problem occur while in Safe Mode? And, what type of video files are you trying to open, and with what program(s)?

Thanks for the reply Caliban. For your first question, I'm not quite sure if it still stops responding while in Safe Mode. For the second question, I'm not trying to open any program. I'm simply browsing in the Windows Explorer for files. As for the kinds of video files that I have, it varies since I've got tons of videos scattered across my files.

What type of 'crash' - blue screen, freezing, etc.? Does the problem occur when a page containing the files is opened, or when the cursor hovers over the file, or when you click on the icon?

You should be able to browse Windows Explorer while in Safe Mode - if the problem disappears, then this would indicate some 3rd-party program is causing the issue. Look at your Startup list, try to determine which app is the culprit.
If, however, the crashes occur while in Safe Mode, then it's most likely a Windows problem, and we can proceed with trying to repair.
Bottom line: we need to know if Safe Mode works, or not.

And, if there's any question about the SpeedUpMyPC, uninstall it, see if your symptoms change.

For the type of crash, I just always experience the Windows Explorer Stop Responding message. It happens when I open the folder with video files in it for the second time. The trigger could be while clicking other objects while the loading is still on going.

I'll try to open it in Safe Mode and I'll get back to you.

Good enough - let us know, and we'll try to get this straightened out.

I was able to try it in Safe Mode. There seems no problem while I'm playing around with Windows Explorer.

The fact that you don't experience the freezes in Safe Mode indicates that some 3rd-party program is causing the problem. Try this: download and install StartupCPL, and selectively disable your startups until you isolate the culprit.

    Keep us posted.

How do you use this StartupCPL? I've downloaded it and install. I was able to access it in the Control Panel.

I've tried to remove the check in Startup (User) tab. Is that the right way?

Look at the items in HKLM/Run and HKCU/Run and uncheck/untick items there also.

Apparently, the problem is not found. I've disabled my newly added softwares that is currently running but the problem is still there.
