When I try to open a folder containing pictures, windows explorer just quits and generates an error message.

I have no idea why this is happening, I checked the event viewer and here's the log for the error:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module , version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

    How can I fix this?

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Please post your operating system and what service packs are installed etc. I assume it's XP?

Also, is it only on a folder containing pictures, or any folder, and what format are the pictures ie bmp, jpeg, gif etc.

XP Professional, Service Pack 2. It's only folders containing pictures, and I'm pretty sure the format is png.

In the past few days I installed some new softwares from google, All-in-One Secretmaker, a new codec for WMP, and MatLab. I thought maybe it was caused by one of those programs, but after removing them all, the problem is still here. :(

    And um...hi everyone! :)

Can you access the folder from another location, for example, copy and paste the folder to desktop and then try to open it?

As far as your comment on removing software you suspected, it may have left files or folder remnants that could be causing this, so I wouldn't put them in the clear just yet.

Go through and manually delete any left over files and/or folders. (Make sure you have "Show hidden files and folders" enabled)

Hmm yes I can access it from another location like Desktop, also this didn't happen with all the folders containing png files, only some.

It could contain a corrupt file/s, but that doesn't explain why you can access it from a copy in another location.

Now that you have a copy, try deleting the original, then replacing it with the copy and see if that works.

Wow it worked! Thank you so much! :)

But I don't understand, I've had Photoshop installed since August. And this problem only started happening around a week ago. And if possible, I would like to know exactly how photoshop is causing the problem.

I don't know why it happens. From the instances I have come across it always involves a png file or folder the user is trying to access.

I'm glad Insomniac asked about the formats, that was a lot of help in solving it.
