The problem is with Chrome and the fact that it uses a separate process for every tab. It will gobble up resources in a heartbeat.

Windows Explorer is not a browser. Internet Explorer is a browser.
Windows Explorer is the file management application in Windows.

As was stated, Chrome is a major resource hog.

I recently noticed that my CPU temps were in the 50C and had been in the 30C.

I had Firefox and Chrome browser running simultaneously and when I had just one open at a time, the temp went down to the 30C mark.

I also reduced the amount of tabs on Chrome to no more than 5.

I have noticed that aswell that Chrome is resource hog. I must have tried all the browsers and some are good in a way and bad in other ways. That's why I have decided to switch back to IE11 which is perfect for windows 8.1

Notice that the original poster's picture has Chrome eating almost 1/2 Gig of memory! Also note that each and every add on/ extension runs in a separate instance as well. Chrome can quickly choke older hardware. Firefox is a much better alternative browser as it doesn't put everything in separate instances.

Source: Me...could not run Chrome on a PIII laptop. Firefox ran fine. Tested two years ago.

The process explorer.exe described as Windows Explorer, provides the Desktop Graphical User Interface
as well as the familiar file manager.

The process name of Internet Explorer browser is iexplorer.exe

You can run more than one browser simultaneously as long as you have sufficient RAM.

On my Windows XP machine with 1.5GB of RAM, I sometimes ran Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera browsers
    together.

Trying to do that with any of the Chromium based browsers and such a small amount of RAM will result in
using the disk paging file a lot for memory swaps.
