Windows Explorer stops Working

Automatic update installed service pack 2 for windows vista home premium yesterday and now everytime i open a program in the control panel or try to install optional updates windows explorer quits working and restarts... has anyone heard of a patch for this? or know some way to fix the problem?

 

So it only started after the install to SP2 for Vista?

If yes, then I would run the following in order:

goto command prompt and type the following: sfc /scannow

If it doesn't find anything, then I would do a check disk:

command prompt: type chkdsk /r

The second one will take a long time. If you are still having problems, report back here.

 

neither one of them worked... the problem persists..didn't see the results of the chkdsk /r cause i stepped away from the computer but nothing seems to have changed..

 

Since this happened very recently, I would do a system restore to a date before the update. Then check that everything is running right and do the updates again, leaving your machine alone while it is installing.

Also, you could look at doing a repair install on Vista.
