All of a sudden my ZA keeps telling me windows explorer is asking for internet access. Is Windows explorer supposed to have internet access? So far I have denied it. Around the same time View Manager (which I have never heard of before this) is asking for internet access also. Shortly before this I had upgraded my ZA to the newer version, still the free one though. I have windows XP home. Thanks for any insights or help you can offer.

    1. Windows Explorer does not need internet access - you can deny it.
    2. ABC-View Manager is a paid program.
    Code:
    http://www.abc-view.com/abcview.html
Check to see if it is in your add/remove programs. Maybe you have a trial and it wants to check on the status.
I'm thinking that in order for this ViewManager to run, it ties in with windows explorer and wants to access the internet.

I don't have ABC-View Manager. I checked, even ran a search. What is trying to access the internet is viewmanager. I will check and make sure that is all it says the next time it tries. When I ran a search on that, it says it is part of windows media. It has never tried for internet access before, just like windows explorer had never asked for access before either.

I guess what I really need to know is WHY they are suddenly asking for access, which I keep denying because I don't know why they should need it. Both should be undated if necessary through my windows update or HP update and shouldn't need seperate access. Or that is what I think anyways.

    Thanks again, Nancy

I have noticed that after I run any updates for ZoneAlarm, I'll get new pop-ups asking for access. Seems like they were saying internet explorer though.

Open zone alarm, in the program controls, click on the programs tab and highlight viewmanager. Look at the bottom where it gives the details and write down the path to the program. Then open Windows Explorer and find this folder.
Open it. If there is an exe in the folder, right click it and select properties. You should be able to find out information about the date this file was created (maybe not by you but by the company), the company name and the version number.
Post back what you discover so we can search for information about the proper viewmanager.

I found the viewmanager, it belonged to view point. I don't know which kid downloaded it, but I figure I will find out pretty soon since I deleted it.

So now the only one that keeps asking for access is Window Explorer. I found it in the ZA list. So why after all this time does explorer need internet access? Which I am still denying.
    Thanks, Nancy

This is what ZA says when it tells me Windows explorer is wanting internet access.

    Application: explorer.exe

    Destination IP: 127.0.0.1:port 1036

    Anyone recognize this?

    Thanks, Nancy

Windows explorer is your file manager and since 127.0.0.1 is not on the internet, it is an IP for your local computer, it isn't getting out anywhere. You are safe.
Just tell it no once and tell it to remember what you said and the popups should be gone.
