When I run CCleaner, Windows Explorer has loads of thumbnails on the list.

What exactly is WE? What does it do? Do I need it?

I've searched for it on my PC but nothing shows up. Clearly it's there somewhere, but where is it hidden?

Thanks. As I've said many times, I know zip about computers and rely heavily on Major Geeks.

Somewhere in the video, it showed Thumbnails. Does that mean, if I track down the Explorer file, I can disable thumbnails? I assume thumbnails as short links, but why do they show up when I use CCleaner after browsing? There are loads of them.

Just leave them alone Lavender, trust me on this. The more you mess, the quicker you are going to end up with an expensive paperwight. :( They are all a normal part of windows, if you start deleting things you do not know about then you are asking for trouble. Just let them be. :) There looks to be lots more of those little tutorials. You could view them at your leisure.

Thanks Kestrel. Trust me - I listen when MG speaks. I've never been led the wrong way in here, and I'n very glad this site exists for dummies like me.

You are not a dummie. You are just a beginner. You remind me a little of myself when I first started computing believe it or not. You just need to relax a little. Take each day as it comes and set aside plenty of time to learn one thing at a time.

I doubt you were ever as dumb as I am. I'm being very cautious because, about a year ago, I learned I'm being cyber stalked and hacked. I takes a lot of fun out of using a computer.

This video is for Windows XP. If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, some of the info shown in this video is a bit inaccurate. For example, the video says Explorer can be started by clicking Start, the right clicking on My Computer and selecting Explore. That applies to Windows XP but not to Vista and 7. Also, My Computer not the terminology used in Vista and 7; they simply call it Computer.

Thanks, I didn't think about the OS. But it will be easy to find other vids appropriate for you Lavender. :) Basically I was wanting to highlight what windows explorer IS. And that vid explains.

Thanks. I'm on Vista but things don't appear the way they do on the video. It's almost as if I have a hybrid.

Thanks, Kestrel, your video and reply explained it very well. I now know it's one of those programs I don't dare delete, and that's basically what I wanted to know.

I'm not sure what you are referring to, but hope this is on the right track.
Stop Windows from saving the thumbnail cache
Supposedly, this refers to Windows Vista as well as XP.
Use the first method - do not attempt to edit the Registry
