    Hi guys,
    I need your help, i'm trying to get my boyfriends laptop working for him. Firstly its an Acer Aspire 4810T series running on AC power only, came with windows vista 32bit and an windows 7 upgrade disc which he had installed. This was the only disc that came with the laptop, there was no installation or repair disc.

    Now when he starts the laptop he gets the normal start up screen with Press F2 to enter set up but then it goes to windows boot manager
    windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause, To fix the problem
    1. Insert you windows installation disc and restart your computer
    2. choose your language settings and then click "next"
    3. click "repair your computer"
    If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance
    File:\windows\syatem32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000e
    Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt
    ENTER = Continue
    ESC=Exit

    If I press ENTER it goes to another boot manager black screen

    Choose an operating system to start, or press Tab to select a tool: (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
    Microsoft windows vista
    To specify an advanced option for this choice press F8
    Tools: Windows Memory Diagnostic
    ENTER=Choose
    TAB = Menu
    ESC= Escape

    If i hit enter while the highlighting windows vista it takes me back to the first boot manager screen
    If I hit F8 while highlighting windows vista it takes me back to the first boot manager screen
    If I hit enter enter while highlight Windows Memory diagnostic it takes me back to the first boot manager screen with a different file this time File \boot\memtest.exe

    At one point he did get an option to reset to factory settings which he did (this probably explains why its vista coming up as the OS)
    Previous to this start up problem i think the laptop may have been infected with a virus as his homepage kept redirecting.
    I've tried loading the windows 7 upgrade disc again but it doesn't work
    I don't have an installation disc or repair disc
    I don't get any options when i press F10 or F12 on start up
    The only thing i can get into is the BIOS

    Please Help:(

    Acer includes a way to make a restore disk and program/driver disk.
    We have two Acers in the house and in all programs, there is a listing Acer Backup Manager. That was one of the first things I did.

    See if this restoring from the recovery partition works

    ok so tried the ALT +F10 to get into restore and tried both "Restore operating system and retain user data" as well as "completely restore system to factory defaults" but neither would complete I get an error "WIMApplyImage fail: 0x45D2" "fail to restore image" then it just reverts back to the boot manager screen again :(

    In command prompt i tried the following :
    “BOOTREC /FIXMBR”
    The operation completed successfully
    “BOOTREC /FIXBOOT”
    The operation completed successfully
    “BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD"
    Scanning all disks for windows installations
    Total identified windows installations :0
    The operation completed successfully

    If i try system restore I get an error
    There was an unexpected error:
    The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)
    Please close system restore and try again

    So that's saying there isn't any Windows found anywhere.
    You will need to get a Vista disk for that computer.

    I know nothing of this site getintopc. Search for Vista in the search window and you have a couple of choices.
    I don't know how clean these iso's are but if you have the code on the base of the laptop you should be able to make a clean install.
    Maybe someone will have some knowledge of this site.
    Good luck,

    I suggest you contact Acer and request an installation disc.

    I would certainly follow TimW's advice in previous post. My suggestion #10 came from finding Where Can I Download Windows Vista? As it mentions Vista was never sold my MS as a download which is why care is needed.
    Once again,
    Good luck with the journey,

    thank you guys, Stephen I found it difficult to find the ISO files myself anywhere which led me to believe that they didn't exist, the link you sent me to is taking forever to download (over 3 hours) which i dont like, Thinking it the better option I have followed TimW's advice and contacted Acer, i am awaiting their reply.:) Will keep ye posted!

    The site I pointed you to has a huge number of large downloads. I would expect a slow downloading speed especially for a Vista ISO; hidden at the end of the queue.

    ok so i contacted Acer and they kindly replied telling me that as they do not supply the installation disk with the unit, i can purchase one at a cost of £51.06.....at 5-6 years old the laptop is hardly worth that.......... i downloaded the ISO that Stephen recommended and have been unsuccessful in burning them as they are too big for any disk (any suggestions on this are welcome!!) that i can get my hands on ...it say the file is 2158.56Mb

    You need to burn the ISO to a DVD+R.

    Hello again, I would say that you will need to create iether a bootable DVD or bootable USB. A good program for creating the USB is Rufus 2.9.934. Of course you will need a USB stick that you don't mind being formatted. You will also have to make sure that the Booting order in the Bios will have USB above Hard drive.
    A standard DVD will hold over 4000MB but you would need a program that burns the ISO to make a bootable disk. I think ImgBurn 2.5.8.0 does.
    You are getting closer.

    I'm there!!!!!!........One step ahead of you Stephen..... I used FreeISO burn instead of ImgBurn (it conflicted with my antivirus)... and got there eventually. . . even managed to upgrade to windows 7
    Thank you guys for all your help x ;)
