Windows firewall will not turn on after maleware removal

I managed to get most everything back to normal following the read me/run me post but im still having problems turning on my windows firewall. Says "windows firewall cannot change some of your settings" when i attempt to turn it on.

First, uninstall any Antivirus software that you may have. I didn't see MSE as installed in your logs but if you reinstalled it since then, please uninstall it once again. Afterwards, proceed with these directions:

• Now open Repair_Windows.exe
• Go to Start Repairs tab.
• Choose "Custom Mode" and press "Start".
• Create a System Restore point if prompted.
• In the Custom Mode window, select the following repair options:
  • Reset Registry Permissions
  • Repair WMI
  • Remove Policies Set By Infections
  • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
  • Repair Proxy Settings
  • Repair Windows Updates
• Now click the Start button.
• Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
• If asked to reboot the computer for the changes to take affect, make sure other tasks in the program are not still running before accepting to restart.

Make sure that ComboFix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your desktop -- but do not run it.
If it is not on your desktop, the below will not work.
Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.

Save this file as CFScript.txt to your desktop. So now you should have both CFScript.txt and ComboFix.txt on your desktop.
Now use your mouse to drag CFScript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe and then release.

• Run the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer

Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

• Check List Permissions radio button.
• Press Go button and attach the result (Result.txt) that pops up. A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

The above isn't going to fix your firewall, we simply need to gather enough information before we can attempt to patch the registry to restore the firewall.
Also, let me know if you have noticed any missing/hidden items from the Start Menu/desktop/quick launch.

 

Thank you for the welcome! I have not noticed anything missing as you asked since I ran all the removal tools, but at first yeah my start menu was all blank.

 

First let's attempt to restore the Start Menu

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the number "6" and press ENTER.
When it is finished -- Notepad will open with the report and the log is saved to your desktop.
Attach RKreport[1].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
You can now type the number "0" and press ENTER to exit RogueKiller.

Now check the start menu to see if the items have been restored

Onto to repairing the Windows Firewall...

Open this folder: C:\MGtools
Inside this folder look for FixWFW.bat
When you find it, right-mouse click it once and select "Run As Administrator".
This only takes a split second to run.

Now reboot your PC

When you have rebooted, test out your firewall. It may be on now.

This updates all of the logs inside MGlogs.zip.

Everything seems to be working now. Thank you much for your time and assistance! 10 years ago when this stuff happened i had no problem cleaning and repairing good old windows xp but today maleware is just too complicated for me to keep up with. You do a awesome thing on these boards!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
   • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
   • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
     • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
     • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
   related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
   • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
     for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
   • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
