Just two quick questions for the best pc help forum out there.;) Im running the wonderful Comodo firewall, and i wanted to know if turning on the Windows firewall was a recommended procedure to go along with it? or would it just conflict with Comodo?

Secondly, should i update Comodo to version 3.0? It has recently been prompting me to do so. Have there been any drawbacks with this update? Is there anything "better" about it?

    Thanks in advance.

    HI

Always best to only have one firewall active at once, so best to leave the XP one off and have Comodo do the work of protecting you inbound and outbound, not heard of any conflicts betweend the two, but you will likely see some slowness in your browsing as two will be checking same incomming packets of data and this is just duplicated and can slow things down a tad.

Always best to install the latest version of any software especially security types as your getting the latest protection and any new methods to securing your PC from attack will be added to the newer version.

The only drawback is one of uninstallation in some senarios if you wish to remove comodo, it doesnt always remove all its files and registry components, this can at times hinder an alternate firewall being installed correctly, but they do have manual instructions on their website as to removal, but I guess you wont be removing it as it seems to be your favoured firewall.

you would be advised to turn off the windows firewall if you have comodo installed as well.

you will get a lot of different views on the new comodo.

it comes with a new malware defence that will hit you with a lot of alerts when first installed about allowing or denying programs you have installed.

    some users find it overwhelling..

i personaly have the vista 3 version and have found a lot of problems with it . bugs they need to iron out of it like updating for example.

if i were you i would hold on to the version you have for a while longer but thats just my opinion:)

as far as malware goes, im running the BOclean from Comodo as well. So i don't know if the malware addition would be practical.

BOclean sould be fine to run alongside the Firewall, its just rule of thumb is to only have 1 of each security application live scanning at once, be that AntiVirus, Firewall or AntiMalware, you can have on demand scanners installed, say for example A-Squared ( free ) as its not live/resident scanning, it only works when you want it to.

    Good guide on
How to Protect yourself from malware!
